TPLI II - TABULA PICTA LOREM IPSUM II

A project by the MALEREI, DIGITAL & EXPANDED PAINTING department at TU Dortmund University in cooperation with DORTMUND KREATIV and GE.RÄ.T.-Verlag as part of KOMMEN BLEIBEN GEHEN - Kreative Projekte an temporären Orten.

An exhibition title in Latin. "Tabula picta" refers to a picture panel, a painting surface, a canvas. "Lorem ipsum" is the beginning of a sample text that is still used today as a placeholder for the design of various printed materials. The final texts are only added later. The selection of works shown in the exhibition was therefore not based on a predetermined theme, but on the positions and projects of the invited artists. They all studied art at TU Dortmund University in the past or are currently still studying there.

On display are works by Samra Besic, Jan Birkenwald, Oliver Mark, Katja Mudraya, Philipp Neugebauer, Hans Ostapenko, Carolin Osthaus, Eva-Maria Overhage, Max Pimpernelli, Sabrina Podemski, Claudia Terlunen and Astrid Wilk.

The exhibition series TPLI - TABULA PICTA LOREM IPSUM is an initiative of the "Painting, Digital & Expanded Painting" department at TU Dortmund University and aims to showcase the vibrant and diverse art scene associated with TU Dortmund University at various locations in the city. The focus is on recent developments in painting. Painting today is only conceivable with reference to our everyday interaction with the interactive images on our displays, with photography, film, television and video.

Artists have always taken the development of new media as an opportunity to challenge and expand our understanding of what art is and can achieve, and the painted image has long since become a virtual multimedia format. Accordingly, the exhibition series TABULA PICTA LOREM IPSUM is motivated by the desire to show the resulting artistic diversity and topicality of contemporary developments in art - especially painting - that are also specifically associated with Dortmund.
