Painting, Digital & Expanded Painting

Painting is one of the oldest media used by people to record their view of the world. Current artistic research in painting is always embedded in a richly differentiated environment of art and media. An expanded concept of art is both a challenge and a stimulus.

From the outset, the study of painting aims to develop an individual artistic approach. The aim is to develop and clarify this in discussion with the teaching staff. In addition, students also work on specific topics in the seminars. Colloquia and individual corrections are aimed at reflecting on the resulting works and qualify students to name and evaluate them accurately. Criteria and concepts are developed and links to contemporary and historical discourse are established.

In the basic painting technique seminars, the material requirements of painting as well as historical and contemporary painting techniques are studied. Painting can also be done in the painting studio outside of seminar times under the supervision of teachers. Workstations, easels and storage facilities are available, as well as a stock of materials including various paint systems, stretcher frames, canvases and papers. Permanent studio places are also allocated each semester and excursions and compact seminars are offered regularly.
